Aromatherapy can be used by anyone and I believe everyone should give it a whirl. It’s worked for centuries and it still works. Essential oils offer many benefits for physical and emotional issues. Here are three essential oils that are excellent to have on hand and ways to use them.
You want to make sure that you are using 100% Pure Essential oils to get the maximum benefits. I buy mine from Nature’s Sunshine because they test all of their products for purity. The lavender smells fresh and clean as it is one strain of lavender. Lavender tends to have a lot of different scents depending on the type of lavender that was distilled. Yes, it makes a difference. There are links that will take you directly to the link for the specific oil. I also listed the Stock number at the bottom to make them easier to find. Nature’s Sunshine has over 600 products. Feel free to browse the site and I am always available to answer any questions. Of course you can buy oils locally just read the labels really well and smell them if you can. Compare the brands available. Your nose will tell you what it likes best.
Lavender
Since I was just talking about lavender we will start with it. Lavender has many uses and it is safe to apply directly to your skin.
- If you burn yourself simply apply lavender to the burn it will soothe the pain.
- Use as a sleep aide. Rub a few drops on your pillow, your temples, in your hair. Just take a big inhale of it from the bottle. You can also add 4-6 drops in a diffuser and let the mist clean the air and relax your mind.
- Relieve the pain, itching and irritation from insect bites. Simply apply lavender to the bites.
- Add to your bath. It’s excellent mixed with a little bit of oil such as apricot, jojoba or even olive oil. You can add a few drops to Epsom Salts and shake well. Epsom salts are not to be used for children or adults with certain medical issues. Make sure they are right for you. I personally love the Nature’s Sunshine Concentrate as a bubble bath. It doesn’t take much about .5 oz with several drops of essential oils and it gives a wonderful, moisturizing and bubbly bath.
- Lavender also helps with nausea, stress, irritability, anger and compulsion.
- It is also safe to use on and around children.
- Lavender is great for soothing a cranky baby and there are several ways you can go about it.
- Simply rub a little lavender on your shirt or in your hair before you snuggle them. The aroma will take over and they will relax.
- Using a diffuser is also a great way to wind down the day. Start diffusing lavender before bedtime and the routine can go much easier.
- A bath for baby is also sure to get rid of that last bit of energy and relax them. I mix Lavender with Roman Chamomile in the Nature’s Sunshine Concentrate and give baby a bath. It’s makes a great baby and me bath too.

Roman Chamomile
Roman Chamomile has many uses on it's own and is the perfect mate for Lavender.
- You can add 5 drops of Roman Chamomile to .5 oz. of extra virgin olive oil to soothe the pain of teething. I make it in a baby food jar and then dip my clean finger in it and apply a small amount to the affected gums. It also helps soothe the tummy.
- Roman Chamomile in the diffuser can help soothe irritability, a hot temper, it relaxes you and helps soothe a worrying mind. Putting a few drops of Roman Chamomile and Lavender in the diffuser and letting it run in the bedroom will help promote a great nights sleep too.
- Add Roman Chamomile to a fragrance free lotion and rub on legs for leg cramps.
- Can also be rubbed on belly with a lotion or carrier oil such as Almond oil or even extra virgin olive oil to help with IBS, constipation and nausea. Also good to inhale for nausea. You can also add lavender to this mixture and peppermint would be a great addition for the nausea.

- Use Tea Tree oil in the diffuser to clean the air, ward off germs and help soothe symptoms from a cold or the flu. It helps with respiratory system. Using several drops in a diffuser is extremely beneficial.
- Tea Tree Oil can help combat mold in window sills and the bathroom. You can add 2 tsps of Tea Tree Oil to Two Cups of Water in a spray bottle and spray mold to remove it and keep it from coming back.
- Tea Tree can be applied to a wet cotton ball and then to a skin tag or wart several times a day until the wart or skin tag is gone.
- Tea Tree Oil is used in many skin care products and is great for acne and as an aftershave.
